Legal Aid Camp at Banthara

The Legal-Eagles of "Legal Aid and Social Awareness Society" will be organizing a Legal Aid Camp at the Prasad Hospital ,Lucknow, Kanpur Road on 22nd of January,2014. This camp will aim at creating awareness on the various government policies which can benefit the hoi polloi. The camp will also provide legal assistance to those people who have been deprived of justice due to their financial constraints. The committee has been organizing such camps in its previous years and has always received overwhelming response from the people.
"Anyone can get his/her application written by any of our available volunteers in the camp and then we will be posting the applications to the departments concerned." ,said the Committee Convener.

1ST RMLNLU NATIONAL MEDIATION COMPETITION

The 1^st RMLNLU National Mediation Competition was held from 13^th January – 15^th January, 2012. This was the first of a kind event in the whole if Asia. The occasion was graced by international legal luminaries with the likes of Professor Martin Price, Fullbright scholar and mediation expert, Mr.Niranjan Bhatt, Ms. Sadhana Ramachandran, Mr. J.P. Sengh, Mr.I.B.Singh and more than 20 judges of the Delhi High Court and more than 10 judges from the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. 22 teams from all various colleges like NLIU-Bhopal, NLU-Orissa, NLU-Delhi, HNLU, GNLU, NUJS, CLC-Delhi, SASTRA took part in the event.

On 13^th January, 2012 a workshop was conducted for the participants in which Prof. Martin Price, Ms. Sadhana Ramachandran and the judges spoke about mediation being the most effective way to address disputes of personal , contractual and commercial relationships by providing an out of the box solution. A mock mediation was also conducted for the participants to enable them to have a better understanding of what the Competition was all about.

On 14^th January, 2012 the event was formally inaugurated. The two preliminary rounds took place after the Judges’ High tea and their briefing. Later on in the evening, the quarter finals took place. SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi, Campus Law Centre-Delhi University, SASTRA University and National Law University-Orissa proceeded to the semi finals.

On 15^th January, 2012 the semi finals and the finals took place. Campus Law Centre-Delhi University, SASTRA University made it to the finals. The finals were judged by Mr. Niranjan Bhatt, Mr. J.P.Sengh, Ms. Sadhana Ramachandran, Mr. Martin Price and Mr. I.B.Singh. Campus Law Centre-Delhi University won the 1^st RMLNLU National Mediation Competition. They were represented by Ms. Anushree Bardhan and Ms. Richa Tyagi who was also adjudicated to be the BEST MEDIATOR. The Competition was a great success and the efforts of the Legal Aid Committee Convenor Anas Tanwir, the Organizing Committee members Tahreem Khan, Yasharth Srivastava, Sanjana Ramachandran, Sonalshivani Sinha, Rashi, Pankaj Kumar, Yasir Abbas, Deepshikha Sharma, Avni Jain, Riya Ghosh, Piyushraj Verma, Varnika Jain, Arpit Goel, Akansha Tiwari, Shuchi Singh and other members and volunteers paid off. The judges, participants and other dignitaries reiterated throughout the Competition that mediation is not a tool for reducing the burden of the Court but it is the best way for dispute settlement.

LEGAL AID CAMP AT BANTHARA

A Legal Aid Camp was held at Prasad Institute of Technology, Banthara on 25/12/2011 from 10:00am to 1:00pm by the RMLNLU Legal Aid Committee. It was attended by around 150 people who had some kind of legal issues. In total 88 applications are being drafted which will be forwarded to the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA).

A general  briefing about Consumer Protection Laws, Protection against Domestic Violence Act, dowry, rights of the accused, laws governing pension policies for widows, senior citizens etc., laws relating to insurance, civil and criminal offences, benefits of using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a mode of dispute redressal, relief available under the Legal Services Authority Act etc was done. The Legal Aid Committee is in constant touch with the State Legal Services Authority and is grateful for the support rendered and the faith shown by SLSA.

The Legal Aid Camp organized at Banthara was a great success and we are looking forward to organizing more such camps in future.

Registrations for the National Mediation Competition

It is our great pleasure to be organizing the, first of its kind, Dr. RMLNLU National Mediation Competition 2012, January 13-15 2012.

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University was established by an Act of Govt. Of Uttar Pradesh in 2005, U.P. Act No.28 of 2005 and came into being on 4th of January 2006 to meet up the new challenges in legal field and to strengthen the vision that was given by the establishment of first National Law University of the country.

Qualified as the only Competition of this nature in South Asia, it would be highly grateful if law colleges and National Law Universities send a team to participate in the competition.

The College registrations are open till 15th December, 2011 and the team registrations are open till 20th December, 2011. A total of 24 teams shall be selected for the competition on the first come first serve basis. The rules of the event shall be posted very soon. A team shall comprise of two members who will act as mediators in the competition.

Volunteer Registration open for the National Mediation Competition

The Legal Aid Committee invites students to be a part of 1st RMLNLU National Mediation Competition scheduled for 13/01/2012- 15/01/2012. Interested students may register themselves as Volunteers by sending a mail with subject "volunteer registration" on lac.rmlnlu@gmail.com and cc to anastanwir@gmail.com. The clients for the event will be selected from the registered volunteers on discretion of the committee. You will also be provided with a certificate of appreciation.Students who are available in first week of jan may only register. Being conducted for the first time in India and it being our first flagship law event,it has to be big and it can only be big when you all will supports us.

NATIONAL MEDIATION COMPETITION- INTRA

The University Intra rounds for the National Mediation Competition was held on 12/11/2011 to 13/11/2011. Around 60 teams had registered for the same. Some of the judges were Mr.I.B.Singh, Mr. Yashowardhan Swaroop, A.K.Rai etc. We got great support from the Lucknow Mediation Center. The finalists were: Anindya Roy, Shuvro Lahiri and Ipsita Mazumdar, Manish Rohilla. The team of Ipsita Mazumdar and Manish Rohilla won the Intra and they will represent RMLNLU in the National Mediation Competition scheduled for 13-15Jan, 2012.
